Harvey 'Ward' Green, 88

Harvey "Ward" Green, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2007, in Spokane, Wash.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date with inurnment in Lakeview Cemetery.

Ward was born on Dec. 10, 1918, in Meridian, Idaho, at his grandfathers home, the son of Harvey Wilson Green and Florence May (Peer) Green. His mother died in the flu epidemic of 1919 and his grandparents raised him in the Meridian area, where he attended schools and graduated from high school.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in December 1941 and served as a bombardier on the B-17s. On March 31, 1944, Ward and Billie Camille Black were married in McCook, Neb., and after one month he was transferred to England where he served many missions on B-17s over Europe including the D-Day invasion. After the war he continued to serve in the military from Alaska to France. Ward retired from active duty in 1953 and served in the active reserves until he retired officially in 1978.

Ward and his family moved to the West Coast, settling in San Diego, Calif. He worked for the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, retiring in 1981. They fell in love with the Sandpoint area in 1982, spending every summer at Jeb & Margaret's Trailer Haven in Hope and winters in California. In 2001 they moved permanently to Hope and Sandpoint.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Green of Hope, Idaho; his sons, Bud (Candy) Green of Sandpoint and Tom (Pat) Green of Sandpoint; a daughter, Kerri (Doc) Green of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Marc , Mike Green of San Diego, David (Erin) Green of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Nathan Green of Moscow, Idaho, Daniel (Tiffany) of Moscow, and Heather Green of Sandpoint, Idaho; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout Idaho and California also survive.
