Let's hear some support for the home team

| February 28, 2007 8:00 PM

Not too long after the war with Iraq started, something started to trouble me about the way it was being covered and/or portrayed by the main body of the media.

Today, while listening to an Iraq war veteran on the radio, he gave the best analogy I've heard yet. He said something like, "The media gives us the score card for the enemy, not for us, as if they are cheering for them and not us."

I have to say that is exactly how I feel about what I hear from the media. We are hammered daily about the 800 deaths a year we suffer from our enemies, but very little about how successful we have been.

Not to belittle 800 deaths, but it is war. I heard a statistic today that some 40,000 people die every year from mistakes made by hospitals.

I've played sports and know that when the crowd gets behind the team, they play harder, and the opposing team can get deflated.

We could win this war if the media and U.S. citizens got behind it and started cheering for our side. The alternative is to keep cheering for the other side and encourage the terrorists.

As for me, go USA.
