Donna Gail Waring, 70

| January 3, 2007 8:00 PM

Donna Gail Waring, better known as Gail to those who knew and loved here, passed away at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene on Dec. 14, 2006.

She was born to Nellie Marie (Burdett) and Curt Bond Waring on July 1, 1936, in Missoula, Mont. Gail was an only child. She and her parents lived in Trout Creek, Mont., for a while before moving to Sandpoint, Idaho, when Gail was 5 years old.

She attended all 12 years of school in Sandpoint and graduated in 1954. She was in the Idaho All State Choir while in high school and received awards for her singing talents. Gail also was a member of Job's Daughters. She furthered her education in business at the University of Idaho in Moscow.

Gail worked in Alaska and Coos Bay, Ore., in the late 1950s and early 1960s. While in Coos Bay, she was on the WIBC bowling team, which was the league champion in 1958-'59 and 1959-'60. Gail belong to the Coos Bay Auxiliary No. 538, Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years.

Gail was in a three-car accident, suffering broken bones and neck injuries. She became disabled after breaking her leg badly and nursed both of her parents until they passed away.

Gail resided in Sandpoint most of her adult life. She eventually had to move into Evergreen Assisted Living in January 2000. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, etc. with the other residents there. As her health continued to deteriorate, she was forced to move into nursing homes. For the last three years, Gail needed dialysis so she resided at Ivy Court in Coeur d'Alene, where she could easily access treatment.

She truly loved Sandpoint and had fond memories of growing up here.

Gail was laid to rest with her parents in Trout Creek, Mont.

We will miss her dry sense of humor and joking.

She is survived by an uncle, Derrell Waring of Monroe, Iowa; and cousins, Carol Ralstin and Lori Schwaderer of Missoula, Mont., Lois Pirker of Kalispell, Mont., Laila Owen of Spokane, Wash., Alice Lacey of Plains, Mont., and several other cousins in Washington, Montana and California.
