Political pendulum starting to swing to the left in Idaho

| January 7, 2007 8:00 PM

Idaho Republicans can be proud. They stood united and didn't join the rest of the country that sent a message to the White House. We Idahoans did let Washington know we aren't bothered by the war in Iraq. Staying the course isn't a losing battle cry for us.

Idahoans aren't concerned about pedophiles in Congress, dirty lobbyists lining the Republicans' pockets or that this administration has spent more than any other previous administration ever, costing taxpayers into the next generation.

We don't want higher wages here in this state; let's have the poor stay poor. We do want them to have guns so they can take care of themselves anyway. Letting our kids fall further behind makes practical sense to us, and yet, we are very concerned about what makes up the family next door. Good thing we have our priorities straight.

A party that sold us morality and democracy has laughed all the way to their bribes and ridiculous retirements. Luckily, some sanity has sprung up elsewhere; hopefully, we can start to clean up the corruption of the last six years. This may be more than I can hope for, but maybe my native state will educate itself. Doing less is selling the entire country short.

We need some balance, ethics and accountability so maybe, just maybe, Idaho will make me proud come 2008. My apologies to the Idaho Democratic party, you worked hard; I personally didn't do enough. The local races were close; I can see the pendulum swinging.
