Bulldogs lose twin bill

COEUR d'ALENE — Senior guard Ty Stoddard scored all of his 18 points in the middle two quarters as Lake City pulled away from visiting Sandpoint for a 61-42 Inland Empire League victory Tuesday night.

Stoddard hit two 3-point baskets in the second quarter, and added 12 points in the third quarter for Lake City (7-4, 2-2 IEL), which outscored Sandpoint 35-20 over the middle two quarters to build a 45-29 lead.

Drake Hanson hit 3 of 6 3-pointers and led Sandpoint (4-7, 0-4) with 18 points. He also had three assists. Mat Lawrence grabbed six rebounds to go with his seven points.

Sandpoint was back to full strength again for the first time since before Christmas, and will host Lakeland Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in a pivotal 4A contest.

COEUR d'ALENE — Junior point guard Emma Hawn totaled 17 points, seven assists and six steals for the host Timberwolves in the IEL game.

"She was phenomenal," Lake City coach Darren Taylor said.

Five players hit double figures for Lake City (13-2, 6-2 IEL).

Alissa Tenuto scored seven points to lead Sandpoint (1-13, 0-7), who played well offensively in the first quarter before struggling to find their offense.

Sandpoint hosts 4A rival Lakeland on Friday at 6 p.m.

Bailey Hewitt had 19 points, eight rebounds and five steals in a losing effort as the Clark Fork girls fell in North Star League action in Wallace Tuesday night.

"We ran out of gas," said coach Dexter Vogel, who only had 12 girls to play a varsity/JV doubleheader against the defending league champion Miners (6-8, 2-1). "Our girls hustled and never gave up, Wallace just scored too many inside against us."

Freshman Shaina Gustafson had 13 points and five steals, and Rayna Allen tallied 12 points, five steals and three assists for the Cats (2-10, 0-4) in the loss. Mandy Martin had two and Megan Hess one to round out the scoring as the Cats played with a short bench.

Clark Fork plays at Mullan on Friday in a game that was pushed back a day.
