LAKELAND — Sandpoint returned to the mats after a two week layoff and beat Columbia 49-30, then fell to Nampa 37-33 in duals wrestling action Thursday at Lakeland High School.

Timmy Pepperdine (103 pounds), Alec Ward (112), Kyle Meschko (152), Jerod Morris (171) and Taylor Morris (189) each won two matches. Pepperdine and Meschko each recorded two pins, and the Morris twins one each. Darren Thompson, James Van Essen and Cliff Ciszmar each won a match.

There's no rest for the weary as the Bulldogs head to Post Falls today where three-time champion Pasco High heads a 24-team field for this year's 10th annual River City Duals wrestling tournament. Skyview, which won in 2003, is also back. Nampa, the 2005 winner, is the only other returning former champion.

Each team will wrestle four duals, followed by the placing matches on Saturday. The matches for 13th-24th place are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The matches for places 1-12, including the championship dual, are scheduled for 5 p.m.

Local teams include Post Falls, Lakeland, Sandpoint, Wallace, Priest River, Lake City and St. Maries.
