Anne Martel
Anne Martel passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Life Care Center of Sandpoint, Idaho.
She was born Jan. 14, 1917, in Saskatchewan, Canada. Her parents were from Romania. They left there and went to England and, from there, on to Canada. They raised six children and had a thriving Jewish bakery.
Anne married Romeo Martel, who was a hockey player for Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Ann and Romeo had four children in Canada and came to the United States, where they had one more child in Seattle.
Anne loved to bowl, play pinochle and travel after her retirement. They had three surviving children, daughter Terri (Bascom) Palmer, Michael (Patrice) Martel and Paul (Michele) Martel. A set of twins preceded her in death. Anne is also survived by grandchildren Gretchen Ryan, Kari (Ben) Kurtz, Nicole Martel, Tyler Martel, Courtney (Richard) Wheling, and Bascom Palmer III; and great-grandchildren Jordan Ryan, Devan Ryan, Alexa Ryan, Maddox Kurtz, and Burke Fullerton Palmer.
She truly loved all of her children. She came to Sandpoint in 2000 to be with her daughter and husband.
Her wishes were that her body be donated to the medical program at the University of Washington.
