Pedestrians obligated to use common sense

| January 17, 2007 8:00 PM

Beth Beddingfield's letter (Jan. 9, Daily Bee) brings to my mind the fact that pedestrians have an obligation to use common sense when crossing streets in this "walking town."

It seems to me that three young children crossing Fifth Avenue at almost 5 p.m. when it is dark outside should have been told by their parents to use the controlled intersections at Larch or Cedar. It takes only two minutes at a leisurely pace to walk to either of them from Super Drug, and one minute at a brisk pace.

We have to keep in mind that while we live in a "walking town," Sandpoint is also a town with Idaho's main north-south interstate highway running through its main street, making it somewhat of a "driving town" also. Using controlled intersections would certainly alleviate some of the pedestrians' problems. Please use common sense, folks!
