Clark Fork beats Priest River

| January 22, 2007 8:00 PM

CLARK FORK — After giving up two of their largest scores the last couple of games, Clark Fork's defense reverted to its stingy early-season form in beating Priest River 44-31 Monday night in Clark Fork.

Cameron Jeffres led the Cats (5-5) with 19 points and Drew Wilkinson added 13, but it was his team's defensive effort that Cats' head coach Brian Powell was most pleased with.

"We had talked about it before the game and we played really good defense tonight," he said. "Drew was more aggressive in taking the ball to the basket and he played up top on our press."

Mike Martin and Thomas McMahon opted for doing the dirty work instead of scoring, as each finished with nine rebounds and four steals while setting the tone defensively. The Cats held the Spartans (8-6) to single digits in three quarters, and only turned the ball over 15 times.

J. Weimer led Priest River, who played short-handed, with 10 points.

Clark Fork plays at Kootenai in a NSL battle on Friday night.
