Let's work together to make road safer

| January 22, 2007 8:00 PM

On Jan. 19, at 2:45 p.m. I was attempting to cross U.S. 95 (Fifth Ave.) at the designated cross walk at Poplar as a pedestrian. I am 65 years old and was wearing a bright blue ski jacket, navy blue pants and using a black umbrella.

It was daylight and snowing but vision was good. I stepped off the curb going east, traffic going south did not appear to see me or acknowledge me. There were 7B plates and out-of-state plates. After seven or eight cars in both lanes went by, there finally was a response — a car stopped for me and I was able to cross.

This was where there was a death recently. Last summer my granddaughter (11 years old) and myself received the universal finger sign from a driver while we were trying to cross Fifth Avenue.

Let's all work together to make Fifth Avenue a safe road.
