PSB workers may need hunter orange to cross 5th

| January 28, 2007 8:00 PM

The city of Sandpoint has a foot-versus-vehicle traffic problem on N. Fifth Avenue, that is for sure.

But keep the horses in the barn and the eggs gathered for the next looming situation.

Hopefully, the powers will not be waiting for the cows to come home before the fix.

When the new Panhandle State Bank is fully operational and the parking lot located on the west side of Fifth, and the south side of Church Street is filled by the many fine people who work at the bank, it is going to be plum interesting, if not sad, for those folks to be dodging the traffic not only on Fifth, but the Church Street traffic could be the one that kicked the milk bucket over.

Virtually all of the driver attention coming from either direction on Church is concentrated to the north on Fifth. Not much left for those walking who want to cross that intersection.

No doubt that this is being taken care of by urban renewal. But, as a precaution, PSB may want to consider issuing hunter orange to these precious people because they will be like sitting ducks.
