Residents' finances will determine levy's future

| January 29, 2007 8:00 PM

Property owners will determine if with their defective evaluations will allow them to continue voting for annual school levies, at least until something is done to correct the unfair tax system, or opt to get some relief by not passing the levy in late March.

However, with the near daily drumbeat of articles in the Bee, gushing about how rough a shape the district will be in if this fails, I thought it time to let you know a few other tidbits.

As the district reports, enrollment is down and will continue declining for at least the next six years. This should lead to fewer administrative costs, fewer new books, bus trips and as for computers, get the new VISTA system and call it good.

What are licensing fees? Schools within schools? Shouldn't dropping out be the responsibility of the kid his/her parents?

New cell phones all around for the administration to replace their ancient one-year-old ones.

Why are kids bused, even in good weather, from the high and middle schools to the library? Those four blocks must be exhausting.

Why are we busing sports teams to the Seattle area to play? Course, if one coach gets his way, they'll fly over.

Finally, I have it on a good source that the district hires private buses, as they're more comfortable, to ferry the baseball teams and the golf squad to Cd'A to "practice" as our fields and courses aren't good enough.

If they throw money around for these non-education purposes, who knows what else the district is spending our taxes on?
