G. David 'Papa' Self

G. David "Papa" Self, born Feb. 6, 1943, was brought home to his Lord and Savior July 7, 2007.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2007, at New Life church in Hayden, Idaho, where he was an active member. Casual attire is strongly encouraged.

Born in Seattle, Wash., he lived in the Idaho's Silver Valley, Sandpoint, Idaho, and most recently Rathdrum, Idaho.

He found success in a number of occupations but was most committed to developing youth through sports. Two generations of children, benefited from his volunteer coaching in baseball, basketball, soccer, softball and, most notably, volleyball.

He was a loving and beloved husband and father, a trusted friend and colleague, and ever a calming and positive presence.

He will be sorely missed by his surviving wife, Peggy Self; siblings, Jim Self and Sue Scully; children, Jeri Self-Merritt, Mike Self and Michelle Self; five grandchildren and numerous others.
