Marjorie Schultz Gerth, 83

Marjorie Schultz Gerth, 83, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2007, in Kootenai, Idaho.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint, Idaho, with the Rev. Dr. Nancy Copeland-Payton officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Watsontown Cemetery in Pennsylvania.

Marge was born June 29, 1924 in East Orange, N.J., to William W. and Ethel (Wheeler) Schultz. She grew up in Upper Darby, Pa., graduating from high school there in 1941. She went on to attend Penn State University, graduating in 1944, and then received her master's degree from the Yale School of Nursing in 1947.

Marge married John H. Gerth on Sept. 8, 1946, in Kutztown, Pa. The couple made their home in Winston-Salem, N.C., where all three of their children were born. In 1955 the family moved to Brookside, N.J., where Marge served as superintendent of Sunday school at the Brookside Congregational Church, president of the Township Board of Education, helped found the first aid squad, and served as school nurse for more than a decade.

In 1984, Marge and John moved to Montgomery, Pa., where she remained active as an elder at the Washington Presbyterian Church, and was a founding member of the Montgomery Public Library. In 2000, they moved to Sandpoint, Idaho to be closer to family. John passed away in 2001, while Marge was living at The Bridge Assisted Living. She later found a home at Beehive Homes of Sandpoint.

Marge was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint, where she will be fondly remembered for her whistling. She was a licensed registered nurse, member of the New Jersey Teacher's Association, and started the annual East Bonner County Library Dolly Tea Party.

She was a doll collector, wonderful seamstress, traveled to over 60 countries, enjoyed reading , crossword puzzles, her grandchildren and was always trying something new.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy C. Gerth (Jim Akers) of Sagle, Idaho, and Jean L. Gerth of Sandpoint; a son, John A. (Julie) Gerth of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; seven grandchildren, John, Virgil, Kelly, and Joey Akers, and Benjamin, Emily, and Molly Gerth; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two nieces and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Gerth; two brothers, John and Billy Schultz; a sister, Nancy Schultz; Aunt Ruthie; and a nephew, David Schultz.
