PSNI is very deserving recipient of makeover
There are few groups who deserve selection for a makeover project more than Panhandle Special Needs, Inc.
For the past few days an Extreme Home Makeover team from Sullivan Homes has been remodeling the front portion of the facility's interior space. The crew is making the building handicap accessible, adding a bookkeeping room as well as much-needed storage and remodeling the kitchen, men's bathroom and the women's bathroom. New appliances also are in store for the Sandpoint facility, which trains the community's handicapped teenagers and adults for employment and helps them develop skills to live on their own.
Thanks to the efforts of Lois Miller and others, about $60,000 has been raised in cash and in-kind donations. Her efforts also resulted in PSNI's selection for the makeover.
It won't be the end to work needed at PSNI, however. Renovations are needed in the facility's large work area and the work services area needs to be bigger. Funds already raised will go toward those projects, but more will likely be needed.
As a community, we've done a great job getting behind Lois and the other PSNI supporters to get the project to this point. With a little more, we can make PSNI a shining star that will be used as an example throughout the region of how a facility should be.
Donations, clearly marked for the remodeling project, can be sent to: 1424 N. Boyer Ave., Sandpoint, ID, 83864.
