Fat people could well be the norm in 2015

| July 23, 2007 9:00 PM

There is no excuse for Sandpoint and North Idaho to be populated by fat kids.

Yes, fat, f-a-t fat.

Here we are in the middle of paradise with thousands of available activities nearby, many which cost nothing.

The above statement is editorially harsh, and we apologize. We have to get your attention somehow and we are competing against TV, fast food and PlayStation 2 games to do it.

The obesity plague is hitting all of us but we are especially worried about today's youth. Today's fat kid is tomorrow's Type 2 diabetic.

A recent study stated that Americans are getting fatter and that obesity may be the norm by 2015 if something isn't done about it.

It's high time Americans took control of their diet and exercise regime.

The study predicts that 75 percent of American adults will be overweight with 41 percent of those obese by 2015.

The study was conducted by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health who found that the level of obesity amongst Americans escalated from 13 percent in the 1960s to 32 percent in 2004.

This study should be another warning shot and this isn't the first time you have read about this health care crisis. It also probably won't be the last.

Take time to enjoy life in this area. Just by going easy on the ice cream and brushing the dust off the bike, you could make a huge health change.

Fat chance?

It's your choice. Don't say you haven't been warned.
