Walkers need to follow rules of the road as well
First, I would like to applaud the people in our community for adopting Sandpoint as a "walking city." But everyone should understand that you should cross streets at the crosswalks. The exercise will do you good. And, if you want to cross the street, look before you step out. With all the activities that happen every weekend in Sandpoint, drivers are already looking in every direction possible. Pedestrians and bicyclists need to be ticketed just like the driver of a motor vehicle.
Everyone needs to follow the law; it does reduce the chances for accidents to happen. Maybe Sandpoint should take down its signs that say it is a walking community until after the bypass is built. I think would be easier to educate the people though. A ticket here and there will help get the message out — word of mouth travels pretty fast.
And, to the man who walked out in front of us, in the middle of a city block, and gave us some finger movements, reach back with both hands and pull your head out of your rear. If I wasn't paying attention and following the law, there could have been an accident that changed our lives forever.
So remember, follow the law, be polite, and thank God for letting us live another day.
