Carlo George DiGiulio, 84

Carlo George DiGiulio, 84, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2007, in Kootenai, Idaho.

Military honors and internment will take at 10:30 a.m. on, Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nev.

Carlo was born July 5, 1923, in Elizabeth, N.J., to Nazerano and Fanny DiGiulio. He grew up and attended schools in Elizabeth. Upon graduation from high school, he entered the United States Army for four years; he then entered the Air Force and served a 21-year career.

The highlight of Mr. DiGiulio's career was setting a world record when his crew flew a B-36 bomber over 50,000 feet for the first time. He described how they wore special pressurized suits and he remembered seeing the curvature of the earth.

Carlo married Caroline Holmberg on Jan. 4, 1951, in New Castle, Wyo. After retiring at Hamilton Field in California he went to work for the postal service in Novato, Calif., retiring in 1988 to Lovelock, Nev. Caroline passed away in 1995, and in 2001 Carlo moved to Sandpoint, Idaho.

He enjoyed deep sea fishing, golfing, bowling, and dancing. He belonged to the American Postal Workers Union, Air Force Sergeants Association and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by a daughter, Carla Dillow of Kootenai; three sons, Paul (Linn) Hamilton of Santa Rosa, Calif., Chuck (Marie) DiGiulio of Dover, Idaho, and Jon DiGiulio of Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, James DiGiulio of Toms River, N.J.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Caroline; three brothers, Lou, Chink and Coke; two sisters, Claira and Marie; and a grandson, Justin DiGiulio.
