Property owners are protecting their rights

| July 30, 2007 9:00 PM

Concerning your article about illegal buoys, this infuriates me. The reason the buoys are put out is to protect our property and our right to swim and fish without the threat of boats coming within the 200-foot no-wake zone.

For years, we have had to live with the many boats that love to zip along our shores, endangering all of us. The reason we put out our own buoys is to provide us with the protections the laws have given us.

The sheriff's office can't begin to enforce the 200-foot law and they don't intend to. How many citations have they written in the last five years for this violation? I was told by one marine officer that they were told not to, because they don't know and can't tell where the 200-foot line is. For that fact, the sheriff's office can't even begin to enforce the regular boat laws. I know, they don't have enough personnel to cover the waters, yet they have time to go all around the lake and river removing buoys?

For the first time putting out buoys, we have had protection for our swimmers and property. Who is being hurt by owners doing what they have to do, to protect our land. If they want to remove the buoys, remove the ones beyond the 200-foot margin and tell the sheriff's office to do their job and leave us landowners alone.

Also, if this is all Mr. Brady has to do to harass people on the waters, then he should get a real job.

For your information, Mr. Brady, you will never get willful compliance. You haven't in the past 40 years, so let's do what we need to do. Leave things alone and quit the harassment. With all the buoys we have out now, we have the best control on the waters we have ever had. Removing the buoys will create an open season for all the boats.
