Arthur 'Art' Leo Jasman, 85

Arthur "Art" Leo Jasman, 85, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2007, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at the First Baptist Church, 1230 Michigan St., in Sandpoint, Idaho.

He was born July 27, 1922, to parents William F. and Mary Kump Jasman on their dry farm at American Falls, Idaho.

He graduated from American Falls High School, at the age of 16, in 1939. He was trained and worked as an electrician in Pocatello and Portland until he was drafted into the Army in 1942 where he served in the Signal Corps in Okinawa and then in Korea during its occupation at the end of World War II. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of master sergeant.

Art married M. Jean Dahle on Aug. 23, 1947, in Aberdeen, Idaho. The newlyweds moved to a farm on the Jewel Lake Road near Sagle, where they reared six children. Art and Jean farmed both in American Falls and Sagle for 18 years before selling the farm in American Falls.

Art was an area Vermeer hay equipment dealer for more than 30 years. He was a community-minded person and served on many boards and task forces for local and regional organizations including the Co-op, Farm Home Administration, Bonner County School District, and others. He also served for 36 years as a board member for Northern Lights, Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Jasman of Sagle; one son, Jim Jasman of Sagle; four daughters, Cynthia Jasman of Colbert, Wash., Joyce (Paul) Sheley of Sagle, Linda (Mark) Bell of Sagle, and Lora (Christopher) Biermann of Newport, Wash. Grandchildren, including Naomi, Jessica, Stephanie, and Isaac Sheley, Lori Jasman, and Audra and Heidi Biermann; a sister, Helen Kress of American Falls, Idaho; and two nephews, Larry Kress and Lee (Judy) Kress also survive him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Jasman; two brothers, Edward and Roland Jasman; and a sister, Marie Powell.
