Bee honored with 12 AP awards
SALT LAKE (AP) — The Bonner County Daily Bee won 12 awards in the Utah-Idaho-Spokane Associated Press Association's annual news contest.
The Bee swept the Feature Photo category with Managing Editor Caroline Lobsinger taking first and second place for "Getting Ready for the Big Show" and "Ready to Ride," respectively. Sports editor Eric Plummer took third with his "Best in Show" photograph.
Plummer also swept the Sports Feature Photo contest for "Snow Ballin'" and "Making it by the Hair of his Chinny-Chin-Chin."
Lobsinger's lens work earned her first in the General News Photo category for "Who are you Voting For?" Lobsinger and Staff writer Marlisa Keyes took first in the Picture Story competition for their Independence Day coverage.
News Editor Keith Kinnaird took first place in the Spot News category for the second year in a row, this time for his "Mudslide rips through Red Cricket Condos" write-up. Kinnaird was also awarded third place in Beat Reporting for his stories on Bonner County's tax rollback attempts.
Plummer won first place in the Spot Sports category for his story on the departure of Sandpoint High School football Coach Sean Dorris, who resigned amid an impasse involving the team's weightlifting program. He also took third place in the Sports Feature writing contest for "One of the Boys," a story about a t-ball player with cerebral palsy.
Publisher David Keyes finished third in the Personal Column rankings.
The Bee competed with other regional newspapers with 10,000 or fewer subscribers.
