James C. McDermott, 79

James C. McDermott, 79, surrounded by his loving family, died peacefully of congestive heart failure on June 10, 2007.

Jim was born on June 2, 1928, in Sunburst, Mont., to Ed and Ethel (Barnes) McDermott. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 18 and served in the Korean War.

Following his tour of duty, he met and married Jeanne Drever, moved to San Francisco and had two daughters. He was employed with Schlage Lock Company for more than 30 years as a machinist and, later, a foreman.

In 1991, he moved to Sandpoint, his favorite place in the world, and later to Coeur d'Alene to be closer to his daughters.

Jim was a proud member of the Sandpoint Eagles Lodge for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Timo Kangasniemi; a daughter, Shari Prymak; granddaughters, Shannon "Shanny" and Heather Ann McNamara; a grandson, Tony "Firecracker" Prymak; a brother, Wayne McDermott; and numerous nieces and nephews, including John, who visited him faithfully. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Rodney and Jack; and sisters, Verona and June.

Services will be held in Montana at a later date.

Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene, is in charge of the arrangements.
