Public art beautifies community, our souls

| June 17, 2007 9:00 PM

To enhance and build a foundation for the support of and development of public art throughout Idaho The State Arts Commission has contracted with local public art advisors in each of the state's seven regions to provide leadership and serve by answering questions and provide training and advice about public art development in their region.

As the North Idaho region representative I attended a training workshop in Boise May 18-19 and are now available to meet individuals, developers, and business owners to discuss the benefits of public art further and the benefits of incorporating it into their projects.

Image life without murals, memorials, or monuments. What would life be like without fireworks, sculpture parks, landmarks or special events that enhance our experience of a place and our quality of life?

Public art does many things, most of which can be divided into four areas. It can:

? Engage civic dialogue and community;

? Attract attention and economic benefit;

? Connect artists with communities; and

? Enhance public appreciation of art.
