Too much traffic, fumes hurting city's desirability

| June 17, 2007 9:00 PM

Good grief, have you been downtown Sandpoint recently? Sandpoint City call themselves the "Walking Town." This has become rather humorous. The daily bumper to bumper trucks carrying cattle, pigs, hazardous chemicals, high explosive fuels, logs, lumber and who knows what else, along with hundreds of automobiles, motor homes and fifth wheels all coming through downtown Sandpoint is causing a most unhealthy and potentially dangerous environment.

It is incredibly sad that only a few people (indeed the minority), a developer and a few business owners are able to stop the progress of a project that would only help bring back some of the desirability, we are beginning to lose, in our city of Sandpoint.

It is time that we, the majority, step up to the plate and be heard (just as we did with our property taxes). Let us tell this selfish developer who wishes to dig a huge hole under our city, the small organization that doesn't mind spending more taxpayer's money to do additional alternative studies (that will take many more years), that it is time to be "realistic."

Let us hope this "anti-bypass nonsense" will stop, and progress on our much-needed bypass be allowed to become a reality.
