Sandpoint sisters put final touches on hockey season

| March 5, 2007 8:00 PM

Sisters Kaylee and Kiery Poulin, students at Farmin/Stidwell Elementary in Sandpoint, recently ended their hockey season by getting a goal, an assist, and a win in goal.

The Coeur D'Alene Squirt Thunder house team wrapped up their season this past weekend playing at home against the Walla Walla Wolves. The local kids were able to end the season on a high note, winning both games in what turned out to be a very fun match up.

Starting in net for the games were first-time goalies Kaylee Poulin and team captain Reilly Cherry, who were both able to come away with wins. Both of these two players did well between theposts, turning away multiple scoring opportunities for the visiting Walla Walla team.

The first game on Saturday ended with a 7-3 score for the local squad as the Thunder opened up the ice with exceptional passing, which created many scoring opportunities. Scoring for the CD'A team were Payton Okon, Carson Clark, Reilly Cherry, Dan Hirtle, Trey Bartoo, Allie Lapke and Austin Tuck. Assists were awarded to Eric Seibert, Michael Daddato (2), Dan Hirtle and Kiery Poulin.

Game two on Sunday ended in a 4-2 score for the Thunder with scoring from Allie Lapke on a pass from Michael Daddato, Carson Clark from Payton Okon, Kiery Poulin from Zach Lavelle and Payton Okon from Allie Lapke.

This local group of thirteen kids should be very proud of their accomplishments this past season. A team that started the season with half the players being new to the game of hockey and struggling to win a game these kids worked hard all winter to become one of the most competitive house teams in the area. With hard work and determination they ended up securing wins against all their local competitors, ending with a record of 14 wins, 21 loses and one tie.

Your coaches and parents are very proud of you all and hope to see you on the ice again next year with the Coeur D'Alene Thunder.
