We have responsibility to help our young people

On March 20, we are being asked to approve a supplemental levy to replace the present supplemental levy that will expire in June.

Can we agree on the following?

? Education is important.

? Student/teacher ratio is important.

? Pupil transportation is important.

? Technology is important.

? Developing leadership skills via extracurricular activities are important.

The fact is that only 68 percent of the district's current overall expenses and 80 percent of our current operational expenses are funded by the state. So can we also agree that the difference is our responsibility?

Our responsibility also includes electing the school board members who represent us in the education of our students.

They have taken a great deal of time and energy to present us with a plan for this supplemental levy. We may not agree with every facet of the proposal, but we also agreed that we didn't want their job.

Let's agree to vote "yes" on March 20.
