Bonner General Hospital Auxiliary recruiting volunteers

| March 13, 2007 9:00 PM

The Bonner General Hospital Auxiliary is an integral part of both the hospital itself and the lives it touches. Following is an excerpt taken from a speech given by Hazel Hall in 1991 about the Auxiliary volunteers at Bonner General Hospital:

"As far back as history is recorded the star has been used as a guide — as a symbol of light and right. It is said that humans are shaped like a star — with the five points being the head, two arms, and two legs and within this radius is the light of the heart.

"President Bush used the star as a symbol of volunteerism in 'a thousand points of light.' Everywhere, everywhere people are helping one another without the promise of monetary reward or recognition.

"I'm always amazed at the energy of light given so freely in our own little town of Sandpoint. One of the organized clusters of light that shines brightest is the Bonner General Hospital Auxiliary."

March is volunteer recruitment month at Bonner General Hospital. Now is a great time to join the dedicated team of Auxiliary men, women and youth who help make Bonner General such an important part of our community.

There are a variety of different opportunities for service within the hospital, with each member's interests and talents considered upon placement. Auxiliary members can be seen throughout the hospital, greeting visitors in the lobby, working in the gift shop, and helping with patient care.

Bonner General Hospital's Auxiliary is a great way to have fun and make new friends, in addition to helping the community. The group meets regularly and plans events such as the Spring Fling Fashion Show, the annual Home Tour, and the Annual Christmas Parade of Trees. They are also famous for their enthusiastic involvement in Sandpoint's Fourth of July Parade.

Bonner General Hospital greatly values our volunteers — their service is a much-appreciated asset to the hospital. And, their helpful and friendly attitudes help make BGH warm and inviting for patients, visitors and staff.

This is an exciting time at Bonner General Hospital. Soon, BGH's new North Idaho Cancer Center Sandpoint Clinic will be open, creating even more service opportunities for the Auxiliary team.

Over the years the Auxiliary has helped the hospital in countless ways — through service, fundraising and creating community awareness. Their efforts have helped shape Bonner General Hospital into what it is today and will continue to shape it long into the future.

If you are interested in becoming a part of Bonner General Hospital's Auxiliary, please pick up an application at the Auxiliary desk located in the front lobby, or in patient registration.
