Area teams pack N. Idaho awards list
COEUR d'ALENE — Finalists for North Idaho high school and college sports awards from the past year have been announced by the North Idaho Sports Banquet committee.
High school and college athletes, teams and coaches will be honored at the 45th annual North Idaho Sports Banquet, scheduled for April 14 at 6 p.m. at the Best Western Coeur d'Alene Inn.
A host of Bonner and Boundary County area athletes and coaches are up for awards. Sandpoint football and wrestling standout Kyle Meschko is a finalist for High School Male Athlete of the Year Award. Sandpoint coaches Karen Alsager, Randy Thoreson, Mike Givens and Mike Randles are all up for Coach of the Year Awards. Sandpoint baseball, soccer and volleyball teams — state champions all — are up for Team of the Year Awards.
Four people will be inducted into the Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame — former Kellogg coach Mary Jean Hinkemeyer, as well as former Idaho Vandals Phillip Hopson, Michael Keller and Dick Litizinger.
Tickets for the banquet are available at the Coeur d'Alene Inn, and at Les Schwab tire centers in North Idaho.
