Nancy was born on Feb. 17, 1950, in Cottonwood, Idaho, the daughter of Augustus Raymond Patton and Julia Elmira (Petersen) Patton.

She spent most of her childhood and young adult life in Sandpoint, Idaho, graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1968.
