June Hunnicutt Holz, 75

| March 27, 2007 9:00 PM

June Hunnicutt Holz, 75, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2007, in Hope, Idaho after a courageous fight with cancer.

A celebration of her life will be held for family and friends later this summer on the land that she called home. The date is still to be determined.

June sincerely asked that memorial donations may be made to Heather's House, Community Cancer Services, P.O. Box 2213, Sandpoint, Idaho 83864.

June was born on April 2, 1931, in Bartlesville, Okla., the daughter of Claude and Nell (Williams) Hunnicutt. She grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, graduating from Classen High School in 1949. She attended Oklahoma City University.

June married Frederick (Fritz) Holz, in Hope, in 1965. For 24 years they lived in Covina, Calif., where she was active in the schools their son Scott attended. She was also an active volunteer in the city of Covina from 1972 through 1988.

Her volunteer work took her in many directions, and she touched the lives of many people during those 16 years.

After leaving Covina in 1989, she and Fritz moved to Avalon, on Santa Catalina Island. There Fritz helped restore and became caretaker for the Inn on Mt. Ada, which was once William Wrigley's summer home. June gave guided tours of the mansion and for five years delivered Meals-on-Wheels, one of her favorite volunteer opportunities.

She was also active in Santa Catalina Woman's Club and served as a volunteer for the Santa Catalina Island Conservancy. The friends made there have stayed dear to this day.

Moving back home "at last" to Hope, Idaho, in 1994 with Fritz, June started volunteering at the Hope Elementary School, helping two days a week in a second grade class, reading with the students. Her next volunteer opportunity was working at the Bonner County Historical Museum. Learning about Sandpoint, Hope and surrounding areas was such fun for her as Fritz and their son were both born in Sandpoint.

Her greatest pleasures were spending time with Fritz, Scott and his partner Leslie, sharing and loving Fritz's daughter, Lori (Holz) Field and her husband George and keeping up with her granddaughters Sandra and Michelle through 4-H, summer activities, school days and growing up. Living in Hope among the tall trees, spending time with her very special neighbors of Spring Creek Hill and watching the wildlife was happiness for her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Nell and Claude Hunnicutt in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

June thanks you for your love.
