Tolerance cannot be a one-way street

| March 28, 2007 9:00 PM

We are in trouble and know one seems to be paying attention. There were two disturbing articles that are distant but tie together. Quoting the Bee article March 8. There is a concert in support of one of our local soldiers that was wounded and others now serving in the Middle East. "Thank you for your service." The disturbing part was even in parenthesis. "The host country does not allow pork and the soldier could get into serious trouble if it were sent." Wow! Here we are fighting for their freedom, getting killed and wounded, and our people can't eat pork, because we are in their host country and they might get upset. What happened to that word forced down our throats daily. "Tolerance?" They don't have any.

The other tie in — our senators voted for English only as our states official language. The Bee's publisher hoped it died in the House. Remember we in the United States are in the host country and I believe the silent majority want English only as the official language. The Constitution and Declaration of Independence were written in English only. Sen. Shawn Keough got it right, Sen. Joyce Broadsword got it wrong. Remember folks we must be tolerant of the feelings of the rest of the world, however the rest of the world seems to care less about being tolerant of us. Case in point.
