? SuperSonics 120, Grizzlies 93

SEATTLE (AP) — Memphis' only win streak of the season didn't last long.

Nick Collison scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, Rashard Lewis added 21 and comfortably sat on the bench in the fourth quarter of the Seattle SuperSonics' 120-93 rout of the Grizzlies on Friday night.

Seattle raced to its third straight win, and snapped the Grizzlies' only win streak of their disappointing season. Memphis beat the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday and Portland on Thursday, the first time the Grizzlies won consecutive games — the last team in the league to do so.

So much for three straight.

Seattle was never challenged, making its first five 3-pointers in the opening seven minutes, and scoring 40 first-quarter points and 69 in the first half, both season highs. The Sonics shot 58 percent and led by as many as 31.

? Durant, Bennett AP player, coach of year

ATLANTA (AP) — A couple of rookies swept the national college basketball awards.

Freshman Kevin Durant of Texas and first-year coach Tony Bennett of Washington State were named player and coach of the year Friday by The Associated Press.

Durant, the smooth 6-foot-9 swingman who finished fourth in the country in scoring (25.8) and rebounding (11.1), is the first freshman to win the award since it was created in 1961.

Bennett, who succeeded his father at Washington State for his first head coaching job, led the Cougars to a 26-8 record, matching the most wins in school history, and to their first NCAA tournament bid since 1994.
