Hutchings claims win in 200

POST FALLS — Desi Hutchings was the lone Sandpoint dual winner Thursday at the District 1 All-Star meet at Post Falls High School. Hutchings won the 200 meters, and teamed with Chanel Garcia, Nicole Van Dyk and Megan Bartlett to win the 4X400 relay by a comfortable four second margin.

The 4X400 was a validating win for the Bulldogs, who also won at the Inland Empire League championships before being disqualified by a more than questionable lane hand-off violation ruling.

Bartlett capped her strong day with second place finishes in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races. Katie Adams was second in the 100 hurdles, and Brooke DeMers third in both the long jump and high jump as the Bulldog girls had a strong showing at the invitation only meet.

Will Andrews was second in the discus with a throw of more than 138 feet to lead the boys team. Kyle Gibson was sixth in the 300 hurdles and David Householter was sixth in the 1,600 for the Bulldogs.

No team scores were kept. The top 16 individuals in each event, and top eight relays in District 1 were invited.

Now it's off to the state-qualifying meets for local teams. The 5A and 4A Region 1 meets are Thursday and Friday at Vollmer Bowl in Lewiston. The 3A District 1 meet is next Friday and Saturday at Timberlake High. The 1A Region 1 meet is next Friday and Saturday at Kamiah High.
