Carl Douglas Rude

Son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandpa and friend.

Carl Douglas Rude passed away on April 20, 2007, in Davenport, Wash.

He was born June 28, 1916, in Hatsfield, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Carl Oscar and Alison Ballentyne Goalen Rude.

He graduate from St. Louis Park High School in St. Louis Park, Minn. He married Mildred Leaverton of Richey, Mont., on Sept. 8, 1938.

Doug was a golfer, a gardener, a woodcarver, a boat builder, a fly fisherman, a master carpenter and furniture maker and fixer of all things broken (except plumbing).

He served in World War II, and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Doug sang in an award-winning barbershop quartet from Sandpoint, and a mixed quartet from Hope.

Doug is survived by his wife of 68 1/2 years, Mildred, of Davenport, Wash.; a daughter, Bonnie (Gene) Smith of Fort Spokane, Wash.; two grandchildren, Jodie Smith of Federal Way, Wash., and Mike (Rebecca) Smith of Nine Mile Falls; five great-grandchildren, Brandi, Brittany and Alexis of Federal Way, and Morgan and Andrew of Nine Mile Falls; a sister, pauline Armiger of Minneapolis, Minn; a brother, Russ Rude of Minneapolis; a sister-in-law, Win Leaverton of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; three nieces, Donna (Allan) Ellstrom of Knoxville, Tenn., Anita (Greg) Sievert of Tacoma, Wash., and Sandra (Kim) Linhart of LaCrosse, Wis.; three nephews, Fran Flatten of Plymouth, Minn., Jack (Diane) Leaverton of Boise, Idaho, Tim (Linda) Rude of Chanhassen, Minn.; and 11 great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2007, at Christ Lutheran Church at Egypt, Wash. (mile marker 16, U.S. Highway 25), north of Davenport, Wash. Services will be conducted by Pastors Duane Anderson and Phil Falk. Private burial will be held on "the Hill" overlooking Lake Pend Oreille at Hope, Idaho, in July.
