Candidates' response to question was frightening

Regarding the Republican "Debate:" Did any of you find it troubling that in the 21st century candidates for president were asked if they believed in evolution? And, was it even frightening that some said that no they did not? And, I noticed that most, if not all, had opposing thumbs.
