NICAN represents special interests, not citizens

| May 14, 2007 9:00 PM

In the April 13 Daily Bee, NICAN, self-appointed saviors of Sandpoint, has taken the next step in its vendetta to stop the bypass.

The last paragraph, a quote from Linda Tauber reads, "NICAN is acting on behalf of the citizens of Sandpoint in an effort to protect them from the machinations and misstatements of governmental ethics, which are supposed to serve the people, not manipulate them with misinformation designed to promote an ill-designed plan that will not solve our traffic issues."

Let's take a good look at this statement.

I don't recall being asked if I wanted NICAN to represent me, nor do I want them to protect me. I do not appreciate your attempts to represent us with frivolous lawsuits designed to promote ill-designed pipe dream alternatives, full of false hope, which only prolongs a solution to our traffic problems for years to come.

We did not elect you, appoint you, or ask you to represent us. While you do have the right to pursue your own personal agenda, do not do so under the guise of representing Sandpoint citizens. How condescending, how arrogant!

A bit of honesty on your part would be appreciated. Simply acknowledge who you really represent … your own special interests and a handful of others, certainly not even close to the majority of citizens in Sandpoint.
