BOISE — Defending state singles champion Rayna Allen won both of her matches in straight sets, and Frederico Moreira advanced to the semis in boys singles for Clark Fork Friday afternoon at the 3A tennis state championships at the Fort Boise Community Center.

It was vintage Allen, relying on mental toughness to defeat her opponent from 3A power Community School of Sun Valley in the semis.

"It was a good match, the girl was a hard hitter," said Clark Fork coach Lisa Allen. "Rayna got in her head and just played her typical style."

The match of the day belonged to the boys doubles team of Mike Martin and Thomas McMahon, who lost a heartbreaking third set tie-breaker 10-8 to Weiser in a semifinal match dripping with the intensity only the state tournament can produce.

"It was a nail-biter, both coaches were pacing back and forth and everyone felt like this was the championship game," said Allen, who thought her team received a tough draw. "It was very intense. They had lots of good net play and communication."

Moreira won in straight sets to advance to the semis of the boys singles draw, which will be played today at 8 a.m. Brittany Yates and Amy Gannon lost both of their matches in girls doubles, and freshman Chelsea Macumber lost both of her matches in girls singles, gaining valuable experience for future trips.

"For her first year, she didn't do too bad," said Allen of Macumber. "She's got a lot to learn, but has a great future."
