Dan was born on Feb. 3, 1955, in Sandpoint, the son of Milton and Marian (Laude) Johnson. He attended area schools and graduated in 1974.

Dan's love for life came from his belief that we are put on this earth to experience everything and squeeze every ounce of joy out of every experience.

DJ loved the woods. A chain saw was put in his hands at age 12 and became like a second appendage to him.

He was an artist, finding beauty in ordinary things most people would pass up, of course that is mother nature.

If he was stressed he'd drive up in the woods as far as he could go, camp out and commune with nature.

Dan not only enjoyed the woods but worked in them too, being a logger for most of his life. He brought a Lucas portable sawmill for his work in the woods.

Dan "DJ" is survived by his daughter, Violet Santo in Tennessee; a sister, Carla Johnson (and her daughter Shila Ewing) of Sandpoint; two brothers, Wayne Johnson of Sandpoint and Eric Johnson of North Pole, Alaska; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Marion Johnson.
