Oldtown man is jailed in Monday shooting incident
SANDPOINT — An Oldtown man was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly shooting into the home of a Priest River man he apparently believed was involved with his estranged wife.
Jason Wyatt Bilbo, 32, is charged with opening fire on dwelling, a felony.
Judge Barbara Buchanan set Bilbo's bail at $50,000 on Monday and appointed a public defender to represent him. A preliminary hearing on the charge is planned for May 30 in the magistrate division of 1st District Court.
The resident of the home in the 1600 block of Highway 57 was at work when the shooting occurred in the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, according to Bonner County Sheriff's reports.
The resident returned from work to find bullet holes in a window. One of the gunshots tore through a wall inside the home and pierced a computer monitor on a bedroom desk, police reports said.
Bilbo denied shooting at the home, although an assault rifle was discovered wrapped in a blanket behind the seat of his truck. The weapon was described in court records as a MAK-90, a Chinese version of an AK-47 assault rifle.
Bilbo denied being in any serious argument with the 34-year-old victim, but said in a later interview that the man had been spreading rumors about him and his wife, reports indicated.
