Show helped us remember where we come from
Last weekend's production of the Farmer Gray show brought back a lot of memories for long-time locals and reminded newcomers of what Sandpoint was.
The two shows, which nearly sold out, were a fundraiser for the Panida. The grand dame of Sandpoint also celebrated its 80th birthday at the event.
Many thanks go out to the numerous people who made this production happen. Bob Gunter proposed the idea more than six months ago and quickly attracted a cadre of folks to get it done. I won't even attempt to name all those folks here, they will be mentioned in an ad later on.
Mr. Gunter is undoubtedly Bonner County's official historian. His weekly dispatches in the Daily Bee are some of our most popular features.
Resurrecting Farmer Gray reminded all in attendance what a special place this is and was. Those Saturday afternoon shows provided entertainment for all and groceries for some.
For many people, the Sandpoint area is acting a bit too big for its britches these days. This show is a subtle reminder of a more humble time.
Thank you Farmer Gray for providing such a great format for entertainment. Thank you Bob Gunter for making the event happen.
As we come to the end of Bonner County's Centennial year, it's important to remember where we came from.
David Keyes is publisher of the Daily Bee.
