Oakley has hand in three goals to lead Bulldogs past Hawks

| October 2, 2007 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Brittany Oakley had a goal and two assists, and Kelsey Windju pitched a shutout in goal to lead Sandpoint past Lakeland 4-0 in Inland Empire League action at rain-soaked War Memorial Field.

Bulldogs coach Adam Tajan was happy with his team's performance, crediting the back four of Alicia Mertz, Elle Kiselica, Liz Stone and Sandy Whalen with containing the Hawks (2-11-2, 1-8-2 IEL).

"We were more consistent today," said a soaked Tajan after the game. "We were real physical and found the back of the net. It's always tough in sloppy conditions but we pushed, something we've been after."

Annie Vogel scored the first goal of the game, and Bailey Hewitt and Savannah Engel also scored for Sandpoint (9-5-4, 7-2-3), which rebounded from a lackluster tie with Post Falls on Saturday. Oakley now has 12 goals and 13 assists on the season, leading the team in the latter.

Lakeland coach Mario Maddy said his team is coming around, while still adjusting to a huge turnover on the roster after making it to state last year.

"We played more physical today, but we're still struggling," said Maddy. "We're young and not quite coming together, hopefully we can compete at districts."

Sandpoint won't play again until hosting districts next Tuesday.
