Comments soar following story on Forrest Bird

| October 8, 2007 9:00 PM

The 60 Minutes stopwatch had barely stopped ticking Sunday night when Web comments started coming into bonnercountydailybee.com. Here are a few:

Milton Moore wrote: "What a joy to watch the story of a true rennaisance man, Dr. Forrest. A fellow pilot, Charlottesville, VA."

Angela wrote: "This story was very nice. It is always nice to see older people pursuing and maintaining their dreams. The more interesting fact is that he has experienced so much of our American history that young people only have the notion of reading about. It is extremely delightful to hear history from first-hand experience. Thank you for the story. It made me want to meet him. Keep pumping Mr. Bird. You serve as a great inspiration to most."

MMR wrote: "I saw the story about Dr. Bird on TV last night. He is an amazing man blessed not only with intelligence but a desire to help his fellow man with inventions that save lives. Even at his age he continues his work. I wish I could go and visit him at his museum. His area of Idaho looks beautiful."

Janet O'Brien wrote: "I was surprised and thrilled to see Dr. Bird on 60 Minutes. In the mid-1970s, I was privileged to visit his compound with an acquaintance of his. Dr. Bird was a most impressive man, a gracious host. I was awed by the beauty of his home and teaching facilities in the compound situated on that gorgeous lake, and was highly impressed by his own fire truck. Dr. Bird has certainly accomplished more than many of the rest of us combined and we are ever grateful to him for all the lives he has saved."
