Dawgs blank Bucs

| October 8, 2007 9:00 PM

The Sandpoint Dawgs junior tackle football team blanked the Coeur d'Alene Buccaneers 21-0 Saturday afternoon at the Sandpoint High School football field. The Dawgs are now 3-1 on the season, and in fourth place out of 12 teams in the league.

Carson Paull returned a punt 50 yards for the first score of the game, breaking three tackles along the way. Dean Knaggs and Gavan Rosteck were pounding the ball on the ground, and Chase Rodriguez had a nice reverse run to set up the second score, a 25 yard strike from Paull to Collin Jurenka which gave the Dawgs a 13-0 lead early in the third quarter.

The defense would get in on the scoring when they sacked the Bucs' quarterback in the end zone.

"I wanted our defense to force the Bucs to make a mistake," said coach Jack Knaggs. "We had our linebacker, Gavan Rosteck, blitz and he shot through the line and sacked the quarterback."

After a Jurenka interception in the fourth quarter, Dean Knaggs busted loose on a counter play for a 25 yards touchdown run, capping the scoring at 21-0. Rodriguez added two sacks to contribute to the Dawgs' shutout win.

The Dawgs play Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m., at Bonners Ferry. The game will be played at Bonners Ferry Jr. High School.
