Man jailed after U.S. 95 accident

SANDPOINT — A Cocolalla man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after a collision on U.S. Highway 95 which injured a Naples woman late Thursday.

Dwayne Gault Davis was ordered ordered held on $500 bail during an initial court appearance on Friday. Davis plans to hire private counsel, according to court documents.The crash happened at the Dufort Road intersection just after 10 p.m.

Davis, 52, told a Bonner County Sheriff's deputy he was eastbound on Dufort and apparently fell asleep behind the wheel, the arrest report said. Davis' Dodge pickup truck struck a Chevrolet minivan driven by 43-year-old Bethany J. Cavender.

Cavender was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Bonner General Hospital for treatment. The police report did not specify which road she was on or which direction she was headed when the collision happened.Davis failed some field sobriety tests and passed others with some difficulty, the report said. He was taken to BGH for a blood draw, but the results of the blood alcohol concentration test were not disclosed in court records.
