SUV collides with semi

| October 18, 2007 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — A Bonner County woman suffered minor injuries Thursday morning after colliding with a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 95 at Selle Road.

Sheriff's officials said the woman was attempting to pull onto the highway from Selle Road and crashed into a northbound semi. The truck driver swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision, causing it to slide sideways and partially overturn in a ditch.

The cab of the truck flipped onto its side, while the flatbed and drive axles remained upright, a sheriff's office news release said.

The crash happened shortly before 8 a.m.

The impact of the crash ruptured a saddle tank on the semi, causing approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel to spill onto the highway. Multiple agencies, including Northside Fire, Idaho Transportation Department and Bonner County Emergency Medical Services, responded to the crash to tend to the drivers and provide hazardous material control.

The woman driving the Ford Expedition which hit the semi was taken to Bonner General Hospital for observation as a precaution, the sheriff's office said. The driver of the semi escaped the wreck without injuries.

The names of the drivers were not released and the crash remained under investigation late Thursday.
