SANDPOINT — The Sunshine Center, a 10,300-square-foot licensed daycare is expected to open next spring on Ridley Village Road located on Highway 2.

Owner Dave Hamilton recently signed papers to purchase property for the facility, which is expected to serve between 150 and 180 children a day.

"This is the perfect place for us, away from the hustle of downtown, avoiding the delays of the railroad tracks on Boyer and Division," said the Hamiltons.

Director Bren Hamilton has been a nurse for more than 26 years and is a member of the North Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children.

The Sunshine Center will include licensed registered nurses, certified nursing assistants and accredited teachers. All told, it will employ 35 full- and part-time staff members.

It will include the Bearly Sick Center for parents who need care for mildly ill children. This will provide an alternative for children too sick to attend school or daycare.

The center will be staffed by an on-site registered nurse with pediatric experience and other certified medical professionals.

It is designed for children with intestinal flu, ear infections, respiratory illnesses, colds, sore throat and fever. However, it is not designed for children with chronic illnesses. Other offerings include a snow day program, infant care center and toilet training center.

The facility will include a state-of-the-art security system and radiant floor heat.
