David Emmett Marley, 64

David Emmett Marley, 64, died on Oct. 18, 2007, in Costa Rica. He was born Dec. 1, 1942, in Sandpoint, Idaho. He attended old Farmin School, Sandpoint Junior High and Sandpoint Senior High School.

A memorial will be held at the Elks on Hwy 200 on Friday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m.

After high school, he and Lois Garvey were married and raised three children in Sandpoint. He started work at IGA as a teenager, then worked on the Northern Pacific Rail Road, until he attended the forestry program at North Idaho College in1969. He worked for the Forest Service as a surveyor until starting on his own, building houses. He continued building houses and speculating in real estate, both in Idaho and Costa Rica until his death.

Throughout his life, he was a talented and versatile musician, playing in several bands, as well as playing for his own enjoyment. He loved the lake. Exploring Pend Oreille and the country around it by boat and by road was a lifelong hobby.

After a trip to Cost Rica in the late 1970s, he became interested in business opportunities there and began studying Spanish a nd spending part of his time there. He spent the last seven years living in Costa Rica with his wife, Maria Rosa.

David is survived by his two daughters, Laura Rains and her husband, Arnie Rains, and Denise Marley and Dave Morris, both of Sandpoint, along with three grandchildren, Marisa and Evan Rains and Emily Marley-Morris.

He is also survived by a brother, Alan Marley and wife Dalyn and a sister, Rhonda Marley, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Russell David Marley, and his parents, Emmett and Bertha Marley.
