Clark Fork looking to take down the Miners

| September 6, 2007 9:00 PM

CLARK FORK — Motivation will not be a problem tonight when Clark Fork travels to the Silver Valley to take on Wallace in nonleague football action.

Wallace beat Clark Fork twice last season, and Wampus Cat head coach Brian Arthun says his team remembers the losses well and has a bit of a chip on their shoulder. The Cats (1-0) are also looking for North Star League respect and quietly feel they are one of the teams to beat.

"I'm excited for the challenge. Wallace was picked second in our league and is ranked No. 5 in the Idahosports.com 1A rankings," said Arthun, whose son plays receiver for the Miners. "We're expecting a really tight game, especially there, it's always tough playing in the valley."

Clark Fork looked sharp in a season opening 48-6 rout of Sprague, as senior quarterback Mike Martin threw touchdowns on the first four plays from scrimmage. Wallace (1-0) beat St. Maries in their opener, and Arthun believes the team that controls the line of scrimmage will win the game. The two teams will meet again later in the season at Clark Fork when it will count in the league standings.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. in Wallace.
