MOSCOW — A mere two weeks removed from a cast on her broken arm, Sandpoint junior swimmer Paulina Gralow broke the Idaho state record Saturday in the 100 meter breaststroke, leading the Bulldog girls to the overall title at the season-opening Icebreaker meet in Moscow.

Gralow, who is the two-time defending state champion in the event, also shattered the meet and district record with a time of 1:07.21. She broke the previous state record of 1:07.61, set by Tessa Greegor of Timberline High School in 2000.

"It was a really good race," said Sandpoint coach Mike Brosnahan. "Moscow has a freshman that is very fast and they both brought each other to greatness."

The Sandpoint girls team won the meet, which featured more than 10 schools from Idaho and Washington. Gralow, who also finished second in the 200 free, teamed with Hillari Contor, Erin Stanley and Pauline Brothers to win the 200 medley relay. Contor finished second in the 100 butterfly, and Brothers finished second in the 500 free, edging teammate Sam Trulock, who finished third.

The boys team finished second overall, led by senior Eric Mann, who won the 500 free, placed second in the 100 butterfly and teamed with Colton Story, Cameron Hay and Todd Stoner to win the 200 medley relay. Stoner won the 100 backstroke and finished second in the 50 free, and Story finished second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 200 free.
