Junior tackle football returns to Sandpoint

| September 25, 2007 9:00 PM

Junior tackle football is back in Sandpoint after a long hiatus (more than 15 years). The Sandpoint Dawgs, made up of 6th graders, beat the Post Falls Broncos 35-6 last Saturday to even their record at 1-1 on the season.

According to coach Mike Givens, the team played extremely well on offense with four different players scoring touchdowns. Carson Paull scored on a quarterback sneak of three yards, Gavin Rosteck scored on the first play from scrimmage, a 45 yard run up the middle, Chase Rodriguez scored on a 30 yard reverse and a 40 yard counter play, and Dean Knaggs scored on a toss to the left side. The offensive line did a great job allowing our running backs to gain over 150 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Sandpoint dominated, as coach Jack Knaggs had them hungry and aggressive. The defense allowed only one first down in the first half. They blitzed, gang tackled and simply dominated the line of scrimmage, allowing less than 25 yards of offense for the opponents.
